When former Beach business owner Sheila Carroll began developing a property in Costa Rica, she wasn’t simply dreaming of opening another tropical getaway.

It was inspired by William Ernest Henley’s famous poem Invictus, a work associated with resilience and perseverance. The word itself means “unconquered” or “undefeated.”

Invictus welcomes everyone from first-time players to experienced competitors, while also recognizing that not every guest travels with a paddle in hand.
“We have lots of people who don’t even play pickleball,” Carroll laughed. “They come for the excursions, the wellness classes, the beautiful surroundings or because their partner plays. There really is something for everyone.”
For couples, friends and families travelling together, that means one person can spend more time on the courts while another enjoys the surrounding nature, wellness activities, excursions or simply a slower day in the Costa Rican jungle.
